Rift GoldExplosions shake the Libyan city of Benghazi in early Saturday when a fighter plane was heard flying over, and residents of the eastern rebel stronghold was attacked by the forces of Muammar Gaddafi.
"The explosions began around 2:00 Gaddafi forces move forward, we learn that there are 20 km (12 miles) from Benghazi," Ali Faraj, a resident said.
"It's the fire on the earth. We saw a plane," he said.
Libya has declared a unilateral ceasefire on Friday after the Security Council approved a no-fly zone over Libya, but the U.S. says the ceasefire was not respected.
In other parts of the city, the rebels were also reports of skirmishes and attacks by the forces of Gaddafi.
"The warplanes bombed the airport road and there was an airstrike in the district of Abu Hadi, outside," said Mohammed Dwo, a hospital worker and supporter of the rebels, told Reuters.
He was speaking at the scene of a shootout between rebels and apparently what he said two mercenaries who had infiltrated the city and were traveling in a car they believed contained a Handgrenades background.
The two men in plainclothes, was shot and killed by rebels Gory identity documents they said showed them to be of Nigerian nationality.
"We've been here, and we got this vehicle with gunfire, then opened fire and then crashed," Sanders said rebel fighter Tues.
Jamal Ben Nour, a member of a Neighborhood Watch group, told Reuters he had received a call to say government forces have been unloading of ships, but it was not possible to confirm the information.
